Every once in a while, a special horse brings a group of people together and creates a strong and lasting friendship. MC Alexsis is one of those rare individuals.
MC Alexis (The Elixir x AK Athena by Sar Ibn Moniet) was bred by Donna Zimmerman. She was “discovered” by Warner Waite while he was transporting horses to the Zimmermans in Bradbury, CA. When he asked about the striking grey filly in the pasture, and learned she was straight Egyptian and by a stallion then standing at Arabians Ltd., The Elixir, he immediately called Shawn to see if she was looking for a real show-stopper. Due to Warner’s enthusiasm, she was loaded on the truck and made the trip to Texas.
Karl and Jacki Breckon had attended an Arabians Ltd. Farm Conference in Houston early in 1997. Karl was getting ready to be transferred to Puerto Rico to head up a hydroelectric project and would be out of the country for a couple of years, but had gotten the “show bug.” He really wanted to have a show horse to go into the ring, and a mare of “foundation status” to compliment the stallions of Arabians Ltd. When Shawn saw Alexsis walk off of the truck, she knew this was the one to fulfill their dreams. A deal was made before they even laid their own eyes upon her.
Every time Alexsis entered the ring, she drew attention with her flashy motion, extreme beauty and substantial size. In 1999, she was shown under saddle by Freddy Goslin to secure her performance points. Once that had been accomplished, the team made plans to get her ready for the trip to Nationals in Albuquerque, NM. Karl had led Alexsis to Class A wins before, but he was headed to the Nationals for the first time, so Shawn spent hours working in tandem with Karl to get both horse and owner ready for the big time competition. Finally, the time arrived for her debut at Nationals. Karl did a wonderful job in a class of 31 mares, and brought home the Top Ten honors.
Over the years, Shawn reminded Karl and Jacki that she had dibs to show Alexsis again once she turned 10 years old, and could enter the ring with the mature mares at the Egyptian Event. With that in mind, she was named Reserve Supreme Champion Mare at the Egyptian Event in 2006 with Shawn on the lead. Her elegance, beauty and charisma caught the eye of Scott Bailey, who recommended her to the Show Committee of the Dubai International Horse Championships, and an invitation was extended to fly Alexsis and her “family” half way around the world, all expenses paid. The offer had to be declined, but it was an astonishing honor, and a credit to the mare and the quality she possesses.
She returned to the ring again in 2007, under lease to Jeff Sloan of Elite Arabian Horses International, and shown by Frank Sponle. She repeated her win as Reserve Supreme Champion Mare in a beautiful class, and she was also the highest scoring straight Egyptian mare of the entire show!. Upon her return to the farm, the Breckons finally accepted the Sirbasku’s long-standing offer to purchase a half-interest in this incredible mare. She spent the next year down the aisle from Thee Desperado, with him keeping a close eye on her at all times.
In early 2008, MC Alexsis was purchased by Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi of Ajman Stud in the United Arab Emirates, with our friend and world-famous trainer Frank Spoenle acting as agent in the sale.
Within a month of Alexsis’ arrival in Europe to begin her show career there for the Sheikh, Frank already showed her to a Senior Champion Mare and Best in Show title at the International B Show in Norway!
MC Alexsis’ Foals
Alexsis began her breeding career in the spring of 2000, giving birth to Minstris Petunia, a filly by The Minstril, who was purchased by Dan and Louise DeRusseau of Austin, Texas. In the spring of 2005, she was bred via embryo transfer to Thee Desperado. After being bred, she moved to the training barn and there became Thee Desperado’s lady love. When Thee Desperado was brought into the preview ring, Alexsis was always there, tempting the stallion to put on a show for her. In 2006, her embryo transfer mare foaled a gorgeous bay filly, KBF Starlight, for the Breckons. KBF Starlight is now owned by Carolyn Busch and is in training for the 2009 Egyptian Event!
